Overview The Unarchiver is a much more capable replacement for 'Archive Utility.app', the built-in archive unpacker program in OS X. The Unarchiver is designed to handle many more formats than Archive Utility, and to better fit in with the design of the Finder. The Unarchiver is a handy, free replacement for the MacOS stock Archive Utility, giving you more control over how and where to compress and uncompress files.

Guides on emulating older applications
The Unarchiver is a universal archive extraction tool for OS X. It supports many old formats, and if you have a format it doesn't support, file a bug and attach samples, and very likely support will be added.
